I started taking yoga classes during my “mid-life” years, after years of being an avid runner started
taking its toll on my body. I found that the yoga classes not only allowed me to lengthen my tight
muscles, but also relax my entire body and mind. Each class was like going to a retreat for my mind,
body and spirit. It was a safe place where I could unwind and relax, focusing only on movements. Any
anxieties from the day seems to disappear during class. I decided that I wanted to go through a yoga
teacher training program in 2019 so that I could 1) at minimum learn the history and fundamentals of
the yoga practice and then, 2) pursue teaching so that I could help others reap the same benefits. My
goal is to become a more experienced teacher by the time I retire from my corporate job, so that
teaching yoga can be more of a focus and helping others for my remaining years.
I was supposed to start teaching on a small scale, classes at a local exercise studio in 2020, but then
COVID-19 hit and my plans did not come to fruition. With the movement to virtual classes for many
forms of exercise, including yoga, I decided to again pursue teaching in early 2021 at least virtually to
start.
Enjoying gardening and flowers all my life, I decided as a teacher to hold classes whenever possible in an
environment outside with nature, surrounded by the beauty of flowers and various outdoor landscapes,
like the beach, gardens and even my backyard.
I have been married for 36 years and have two daughters who are beautiful inside and out, and who
have inspired me to follow my dream of teaching yoga.
